Mingle2 Reviews

Set up in 2008, Mingle2 is free and (according to the people who run it) always will be. They claim to be one of the biggest dating sites on earth.

With a large pool of eager singles to make finding a match super quick and easy. The membership base is constantly growing so it’s definitely a dating site to watch.

Is Mingle2 Worth It? Our recommendation upfront

Unfortunately, while it’s great that messaging and other features are free, Mingle2 doesn’t feel particularly inviting. This is because the website is old and updated, and there are far too many ads.

This makes it really hard to know what you’re clicking on as you often get taking off the Mingle2 to other websites. This gets pretty frustrating after a while.

Our other biggest gripe is the fact that it seems really hard to find a meaningful connection. You get so many messages flying into your inbox (this happened with us even without a profile picture and information filled out) so it feels like other members are trying their luck.

If you want to find something more serious and long-lasting, we suggest checking out some other free sites or even giving one that requires a membership a go. 2.7 / 5.

Pros and Cons

Pros of Mingle2

  • Messaging is free for all members, which is quite rare in the world of online dating.
  • There are lots of members using the site, leaving you plenty of choices.

X Cons of Mingle2

  • You’ll have to put up with lots of ads across the site.
  • The website is very outdated.
  • Even without a profile photo or detailed information, we got a lot of messages. While this might not seem like much of a downside, it makes you wonder what some members’ intentions are if they don’t really know who they’re talking to.

How does Mingle2.com work?

Whether you’re looking for a serious relationship or casual hook up, Mingle2 is designed so that you can browse for profiles you like the look of for yourself.

You really can date your way using the search filters to drill down the exact criteria you’d like to find in a potential match. And as messaging is free, you can start chatting to anyone straight away to get to know them better.

Sign up process

How can you join Mingle2.com?  Signing up is really quick. It only takes about a minute to sign up. Mingle2 doesn’t ask for a lot of personal information. Instead, you simply create a basic profile, add a profile picture (or skip and do this later) and then verify your profile. Afterward, you can go back in and answer questions about your appearance, marital status, and whether you want children (amongst others).

Ease of use

There’s nothing really special about the website. It’s a little bit clunky and uninspiring, but it does the job. Unfortunately, you’ll find a lot of ads while browsing so you have to navigate through those as you look for profiles. Mingle2 does utilize handy tabs that keep all the features in one place though, which helps with the site’s usability.

Chat, messages and notifications

Like already mentioned, messaging all members is completely free. You can also send nudges, kisses, winks, hugs, or kicks in the butt instead of a message to try and break the ice. There are contact limits in place, however. After 30 days, messages automatically get deleted to stop spam. Upgrading to MingePlus removes this limit.

Profile quality

When looking through profiles, you’ll find a lot of them aren’t very detailed. This is because sign up is quite basic, and you have to make the effort to go through and update all the extra details.

A lot of members do actually add pictures though. The silver lining about the lack of detail is that you’re less likely to pre-judge based on the information members give.

Mingle2 mobile app

The Mingle2 app is available to download on iOS and Android, and it gives you unlimited access to all features so you can find someone nearby. The interface is much easier to use than the desktop site, so it’s a great dating-on-the-go tool for instant messaging.

Real-life reviews for Mingle2.com

Mingle2 was simple to navigate and it was easy to go straight to messaging other singles. The advanced search option was especially convenient, as I could find matches not just in the same location, but with the same interests as me. There was a bit of a challenge in messaging other singles as a considerable amount of them never replied even though I really wanted to meet them. The accounts seemed to be inactive. I also found a few profiles that had photos of celebrities in use.

Key features

There aren’t really many extra features to shout about, except Mutual Match. This is a feature that many other dating websites use, where you can choose yes, no, or maybe on random profiles that have been recommended to you.

If you choose yes, the other person will be notified, and your identity will be revealed if they say yes too.

Discounts, offers, and promo codes

We couldn’t find any discounts available. This is most likely because upgrading for premium membership is completely optional and only unlocks a few ‘luxury’ features.

If you do a Google search you can sometimes find money off passes too, so make sure you shop around before you commit.

Free trials

The site is free, so no free trial is needed!
